At Guru, we've made it our mission to create a place on the internet that's safe for kids and parent-approved, but fun enough to keep the kids coming back for more! And we had a lot of inspiration behind our project...

We're the Scattergood family and phew, there are a bunch of kids! There are eight little ones in our crowd, plus three elementary school teachers. Their opinions (and boy, do they have opinions!), their wants, and their needs have guided the creation of Guru. We saw a problem in our family and realized how many other families were struggling with the same issue.
Screen time is such a double-edged sword, isn't it? We love it, we hate it, we absolutely can't live without it! As techies ourselves, we understand the draw of screen time that our kids are battling. Let's admit it - screens are fun! The internet is a miraculous tool where you can toggle between a live stream of a zoo in Laikipia County, Kenya and pretty much any TV show or movie in cinematic history, all with just the click of a mouse. It's a modern marvel! We get why kids love screens... For the same reasons we all love them! But we know the downsides. We know their time online needs to be safely monitored, and limited. Screens are an undeniable part of our lives, but as parents we have a responsibility to ensure our kids get the most out of their time in front of a screen.
We created Guru as the compromise between what kids want and what parents want. Think of Guru as the vegetables you surreptitiously blend into their favorite foods (pro tip: grab some baby food purées of butternut squash or carrots and add them to your kid's mac and cheese). They're having fun, while we can relax knowing their screen time is being put to good use!
Here on the Guru Blog, you'll find parenting tips and tricks from us as we navigate the trenches of parenthood right along with you. We'll also share behind-the-scenes and bonus features from our favorite Guru content creators! Our hope is to build a community for parents as we help families take their screen time to the next level.
